D’s Abroad: Rimmington hits top spot

Another week, another five-for for Nathan Rimmington – and the Club’s new recruit is now the leading wicket-taker in Queensland’s First Grade this season.

Rimmington’s second ten-wicket match haul of the season lifted him to 70 poles in all competitions, making him the frontrunner across all three formats in Queensland.

His latest haul of 5/41 decimated Sunshine Coast’s second innings, giving match figures of 11/110 in Sandgate-Redcliffe’s convincing victory as they cemented third place in the standings.

The Gators’ final match starts this weekend against bottom side South Brisbane with the top four advancing through to the semi-finals, which are scheduled to be played on 10/11 March.

Rimmington also received the call for Queensland’s under-23 side for the Futures League clash, taking one wicket & scoring 67 unbeaten runs across two innings in a 229-run win. Sides are allowed to play up to six over-age players.

Tom Latham narrowly missed out on New Zealand’s Ford Trophy final with Canterbury after they lost to Auckland in the elimination final.

The wicketkeeper made 34 in the win over Northern Districts to reach the elimination final stage but they dropped to a 107-run defeat in Auckland, with Latham scoring 29.

He now joins back up with the national side as they prepare for the upcoming ODI & Test series against England.

Back in Australia, Liam Trevaskis’s North Canberra Gungahlin side held on to fourth place with one game remaining after beating Queanbeyan on first innings, despite losing the game outright.

Trevaskis made 31 in the second innings but went wicketless as the opposition their target of over 200 in under 18 overs to pull off a spectacular win.

They take on top side Eastlake in the final game as they aim to qualify for the semi-finals.

Graham Clark has signed off for the season with Newtown & Chilwell, returning to Durham this week to prepare for the 2018 season after a successful winter Down Under.

The right-hander scored 13 in his final appearance, finishing with 610 Geelong First Grade runs for the season alongside 20 wickets before heading back to the North East.

One man who’ll be staying in Australia for the coming weeks is Cameron Steel, with Claremont-Nedlands preparing for a one-day final at the WACA next weekend.

They’re aiming to preserve their top spot in the two-day competition first, though, & are chasing 261 to beat Joondalup this weekend, but made an awful start to close on 3/3 after the first day.

Barry McCarthy & Michael Jones are now in South Africa with Ireland & Scotland respectively ahead of the Cricket World Cup Qualifier commencing next week.

Both sides defeated the Netherlands in warm-up matches with a match between the two abandoned due to rain during the second innings.

Ireland’s first qualifier comes against the Netherlands a week on Sunday, with Scotland facing Afghanistan on the same day.
