RESULT DURHAM ACADEMY lost by 2 wkts
The Academy batted first on a good pitch. After the loss of an early wicket a good partnership was established between Karl Turner and Ben Coates which set the foundations for a good total.
Unfortunately both established batsman were out at same time and the incoming batsmen struggled to accelerate against some useful spin bowling. The team lost wickets regularly and realistically 134 was at least 30 runs short of what the team was aiming for from the halfway stage.
Despite some good individual efforts with the ball the low target meant we were never able to apply real pressure to the opposition’s batsmen. Our bowlers did manage to control them and prevent them running away with the game but their batsmen were always in control.
We did make some mistakes throughout the day but would have gained massively from our first match under these conditions. Hopefully the team will learn quickly and produce some positive results in our coming games.

RESULT – DURHAM ACADEMY LOST BY 3 WICKETS
Durham fielded first on what was a very warm day. The team managed to get an early wicket but then DSS achieved some momentum and reached 112 in the first powerplay (10 overs). The Academy stuck to the task well and despite continued aggressive batting from the home side our team were able to take regular wickets and dismiss them for 253.
In reply, we too lost an early wicket before an outstanding partnership of 221 between captain Mike Turns (56) and Ben Stokes (144) set up the run chase. Our second and third wickets were lost in quick succession and despite a slight wobble in our batting line up we got home comfortably to win by 4 wickets.
In difficult conditions our Academy showed excellent levels of concentration and great maturity.
