After losing the toss and being into bat, the opening pair put on 28 before Phil Mustard (18) was caught by David Wainwright in Richard Pyrah’s first over with the first three wickets falling within three overs.
Ben Sanderson had Ian Blackwell (2) caught by Andrew Gale at cover in his second over and then Gordon Muchall fell to the same fate as Mustard, caught by Wainwright at mid wicket in Pyrah’s second over for 5. After six overs the Dynamos were 34-3.
Paul Collingwood became Pyrah’s third victim in as many overs when he was caught by Adil Rashid at mid on with the Dynamos 39-4 in the 8th over.
David Miller, who joined up with the team early on Sunday morning, and Dale Benkenstein put on 77 before the latter became one of two victims in Pyrah’s final over when he was bowled for 33. The other batsman to fall was Gareth Breese who was caught behind first ball.
Miller went on to score his maiden fifty for Durham, reaching the milestone with a huge six that landed just in front of the press box, off 41 balls, which included four boundaries and two maximums.
He was dismissed on 54 in the same over after he was caught at backward point by Gary Ballance off the bowling of Adil Rashid, his only wicket of the innings.
Yorkshire scored quickly initially but the opening stand was broken in the fifth over in Paul Collingwood’s first over when Joe Sayers was caught at cover by Gareth Breese for 20.
Liam Plunkett struck in the following over when Benkenstein caught Gale for 34 and it was a second wicket for Collingwood in as many overs when Gerard Brophy was caught in the slips by Breese leaving Yorkshire 59-3 in the seventh over.
Breese picked up his third catch, dismissing Lyth off Benkenstein for 5 in the 10th over and claimed a fourth two overs later when he caught Jonathan Bairstow (6) off the same bowler, which saw Yorkshire’s total at 83-5.
It took five overs before the sixth wicket was claimed, by Borthwick, who bowled Rashid for 7. Yorkshire were 132-7 in the penultimate over when Chris Rushworth bowed Ballance on 48.
The hosts needed five runs off the final over to secure the victory, which they did with three balls to spare.
The Dynamos return to action on Monday (11 July) when they face Warwickshire Bears at Edgbaston, 5.40pm start.
