Match abandoned due to rain at The Oval

Durham’s trip to The Kia Oval to face Surrey in the LV= County Championship was abandoned without a ball being bowled after torrential rain plagued the capital.  Both sides take a minimal three points from the game. It’s the first time since 2008 that Durham has had an entire match rained off.

With the rain falling the opportunity was obviously taken for the team to use the indoor nets but also to speak to the media.  Graham Onions commandeered Surrey coach Chris Adams’ office for interviews with Simon Wilde of The Sunday Times and All Out Cricket, the latter of which you can read here www.alloutcricket.com/blogs/interviews-blogs/graham-onions-on-durham-england-and-skittling-strauss

The Northern Echo and The Journal also took the opportunity to chat to Chris Rushworth and Ruel Brathwaite about their inclusion in the squad, under a doorway sheltering from the rain, so slightly less glamourous!

After Ben Stokes was named in the Lions squad he was the next up to speak to the local media, ECB website and Cricinfo as well as Durham TV, keep an eye out for those interviews on Monday.

Durham will be hoping the weather improves for their clash against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, which starts on Wednesday (2 May) at 11.00am.
