Durham Dynamos lost to Lancashire Lightning by 8 wickets at Old Trafford on Monday night and will be looking to make a return to winning ways against Derby at home on Wednesday
After winning the toss and batting first, the Dynamos had just 16 on the board when Herschelle Gibbs (6) was caught by Tom Smith off Yasir Arafat in the third over.
After hitting a Chapple delivery through mid wicket Stokes stands on his own stumps and is given out for 6 as the Dynamos fall to 29-2 in the sixth over.
The Dynamos were 48-3 in the ninth over when Phil Mustard (22) was run out by Arafat when both batsmen ended up at the same end. Dale Benkenstein was bowled by Gary Keedy for 2 the following over and the Dynamos fell to 65-5 once Johann Myburgh (22) was caught by Croft, becoming Keedy’s second victim.
Gareth Breese and Gordon Muchall picked up the momentum, adding 40 between them before they both were caught off Arafat in the seventeenth over.
The following over Keedy set himself up for a hat-trick after he claimed the wickets of Liam Plunkett and Mitchell Claydon. Luckily Graham Onions survived the third delivery and after hitting a huge six into the stands he was the final wicket to fall when Paul Horton held onto a catch as he tumbled to the floor at deep cover.
The Dynamos took to the field needing to defend their 121 total at struck early on when Stephen Moore was caught by Johann Myburgh off Claydon’s second ball.
Tom Smith (40), who was caught by Onions off Borthwick, and Steven Croft put on a 103 partnership to propel the hosts to within six runs of the Dynamos total.
Lancashire won by eight wickets with 36 deliveries remaining.
At the close of play Dale Benkenstein said, “Obviously, not a good day. With the nature of this game, if you don’t get the partnerships, it costs. A combination of a bit of bad thinking in our batting and some good bowling from them meant we never really got that partnership up front and a base to get 170, which I thought was a par score.
“They’ve got good, experienced bowlers and it was a good day for Keedy. He is a clever bowler and they got the better of us.
“I thought we bowled pretty well up front, we got an early wicket but Croft was out there to take the game away from us and he executed his skills a lot better than we did.
“The important thing is to get ourselves back up and go out and perform, we know we’re better than this but these things to happen and good sides come back and that’s what we’ve got to do.”
