Onions and Stoneman rise up the MVP ranks

Graham Onions was the outstanding performer in the latest round of county action returning extraordinary first innings figures of 9-67 against Notts at Trent Bridge in the LV County Championship (LV=CC) and running out tail-ender Luke Fletcher for good measure

Onions’ feats earned him 48 MVP points seeing him climb into the top ten (9th) of the overall FTI MVP Rankings and up to 4th in the LV=CC FTI MVP. The fast bowler’s efforts have helped haul Durham off the foot of the Division One table with three successive victories.

He has now taken 53 wickets in the LV=CC from just nine games including four five-wicket hauls and leads the points-per-game average (29.93) for Championship cricket. His other outstanding contributions this season came against Lancashire (5-43 and 6-52) and Middlesex (6-45).

Another Durham player who has enjoyed a terrific week is Mark Stoneman. The left-handed opener scored back-to-back hundreds on consecutive Sundays in the CB40 (112 off 100 balls against the Glamorgan Dragons and 102 off 90 against the Notts Outlaws) and sandwiched his first Championship century of the summer (114 against Notts) in mid-week.

He is ranked 4th in the CB40 FTI MVP having scored 558 runs with three hundreds and 2 fifties. He has scored 24% of Durham Dynamos’ runs and has formed one half of a formidable opening partnership with Phil Mustard, who has scored 475 runs with 3 hundreds and who is ranked top of the CB40 FTI MVP. Mustard has contributed 20% of the Dynamos’ runs and between them the openers have accounted for nearly half their team’s runs.
