Seconds lose to Middlesex at Finals Day

Playing Middlesex in the semi-final, the Durham side went down by 29 runs to fall short and finish their day early.

Durham won the toss and sent Middlesex in to bat with their opposition up for the challenge, getting off to a quick start courtesy of their openers with Robson making 36 from 33 before he fell to the spin of Max Morley.

Middlesex number three Gubbins continued to up the run rate as the Durham attack struggled to get on top of a hard hitting Middlesex line-up.  Gubbins made 49 from 30 and was supported by Higgins who made 46 from 30 as Durham shared the wickets with Ireland’s 2-15 and Arshad’s 2-28 the pick and Middlesex ending their 20 overs 164-7.

Durham got off to a good start in the chase with Clark and Hickey finding some good rhythm. Clark made 35 from 19 and Hickey 30 from 33 but the middle and lower order struggled as Fairfield (4-10) tore through the Durham line-up, halting the momentum.

The run rate was just too much for the young Durham side with Buckley and Morley the not out batsman unable to get their side across the line falling 29 runs short and ending their Finals Day hopes.

Despite the loss the side had a fantastic season in the shorter format and their efforts in making Finals Day should be applauded with some fantastic performances getting them to that stage.
