Harrison stars with ball as rain dampens Day 3

After overnight rain, played was delayed until 12 noon but it wasn’t long until Durham had sent the Surrey batsmen back to the pavilion.  It took Durham just 4.4 overs to end Surrey’s first innings with the visitors losing 4-11 early on Day 3.

Rushworth claimed his second wicket on his second ball on the second over of the day with Mark Stoneman taking a nice catch to dismiss Batty for 8 and leave Surrey 103-7 still 318 runs behind Durham’s first innings.

It was then the Jamie Harrison show as he took the final three wickets in his next two overs.

He first dismissed Tremlett lbw for 3, then in his next over claimed the wicket of Linley also lbw and took the final Surrey wicket just two balls later, cleaning up Dernbach’s stumps as Surrey finished all out for 108, 313 runs behind the Durham first innings.

Durham enforced the follow on and it was that man again, Harrison who got Durham off to a good start when he claimed his 4th wicket of the morning after bowling Harinah who didn’t trouble the scoreboard.

It was nine overs later and after the lunch break when Durham got their next breakthrough when Arshad, in his second over, claimed two wickets in two balls leaving Surrey in further trouble.

He first removed Burns who edged to Borthwick at second slip and then followed it up the next ball by removing Solanki for a golden duck after he sent one through to Mustard leaving Surrey 3-33.

Amla was providing the resistance for Surrey and appeared to be the key wicket for Durham to claim.

Just when Durham were hunting for their fourth wicket, play was stopped just after lunch due to bad light with the grey and gloomy skies sticking around for the remainder of the day, preventing further play.

Surrey will resume on 52-3, still 261 runs behind Durham who will be looking for sunshine and seven more wickets on the final day.
