Young Durham Stars scoop Player of the Year Awards.

Helen Fenby who attends Grangefield  School and plays cricket at Norton Cricket Club won the award in the under 13 category receiving  a scooter as her prize! Helen had an outstanding season scoring 470 runs with an average of 40 and took 27 wickets.

Helen also represented the under 15 and under 17 teams as well as playing for the Durham Senior Women’s team in the National Championship.

Josh Coughlin of St. Roberts of Newminster School and plays his cricket at Hetton Lyons Cricket Club won the award for the under  14 – under 19 category, winning a Trek Mountain Bike.

Josh was outstanding with the bat, scoring 794 runs with an average of 36. Josh also took 13 wickets, but it was his batting that caught the eye of the coaches, scoring four hundreds in one season is virtually unheard of at County age group level.

Helen and Josh received awards donated by Cycleworld Chester le Street owner Ian Watson, Ian said, ‘I am delighted to work with the Durham Cricket Board to recognise and reward their most talented players and to support the development of the stars of the future’. In addition to the two Player of the Year awards Cycleworld have also given discount to every member of the age group squads and their families.

Director of Development Graeme Weeks added, ‘I would like to personally thank Cycleworld for their fantastic support which has enabled us to be able to present such fantastic prizes to Helen and Josh to reward them for their outstanding performances this season’
