Durham Jets v Derbyshire Falcons: Key Moments

Derbyshire Innings: 125 all out (A Hughes 43*, Hastings 4-26)

20th over. Derbyshire Falcons 125 all out: WICKET! With the first ball of the final over, Stokes strikes to end the innings. Turner pushes a delivery straight to Collingwood, who takes a chest-high catch at point. Durham Jets need 126 runs to win.

19th over. Derbyshire Falcons 125-9:
WICKET! A fantastic catch from Stokes, who runs in from the deep cover boundary and dives forward to remove Cork for 12. Arshad picks up the wicket, but his joy is shortlived as he is smashed for six by Mark Turner from the very next delivery! A wide is then followed by some heavy rain which forces the players off the field. Thankfully, no overs have been lost and Arshad completes the penultimate over, with the Falcons on 125-9.

18th over. Derbyshire Falcons 112-8:
Cork picks up a slightly streaky first boundary over short third man. Calum MacLeod had just been brought up inside the circle and the next delivery from Stokes was sliced over the Scottish International’s head for four. Two overs left now, with Cork unbeaten on 12 and Hughes on 33.

17th over. Derbyshire Falcons 102-8:
Arshad returns from the Finchale End and appears to break Hughes’ bat! Hughes reaches for a short and wide delivery which catches the toe end of the blade. With a new willow, Hughes then pulls Arshad away for a rare boundary as the Falcons finally reach the 100 mark.

16th over. Derbyshire Falcons 94-8: With some light rain falling, the umbrellas are going up in the crowd but play continues. Breese concedes four singles in another quiet over. Four overs remain.

15th over. Derbyshire Falcons 90-8: Ryan Pringle was expensive in his first over, which went for 12, but he concedes just five on his return to the attack. Hughes and debutant Greg Cork are content to gather the singles for the visitors. Cork is the son of former Derbyshire, Hampshire and England all-rounder Dominic.

14th over. Derbyshire Falcons 85-8: Gareth Breese is the new bowler and WICKET! Wainwright is lured out of his crease with a beautifully flighted delivery and Mustard whips the bails off quickly. The third umpire confirms the stumping and the Jets are on fire here.

13th over. Derbyshire Falcons 80-7:
WICKET! Slower ball from Collingwood and Palladino is caught in two minds. He scoops the ball tamely into the air and MacLeod runs in from mid-wicket to complete the job. David Wainwright is the new man in, with Derbyshire in danger of not batting for the full 20 overs.

12th over. Derbyshire Falcons 77-6: Hughes slashes at a delivery from Stokes but can only get a thick edge down to third man where Calum MacLeod fields. The Falcons are happy to pick up six singles from that over to move the score on to 77.

11th over. Derbyshire Falcons 71-6: The Falcons are forced to rebuild slowly here and just pick up five runs from Collingwood’s third over.  Alex Hughes and Tony Palladino are the men in – Derbyshire’s big hitters are all back in the pavillion!

10th over. Derbyshire Falcons 66-6: Ben Stokes, fresh from his 10 wicket haul in the championship earlier this week, is into the attack. WICKET! Stokes strikes early as Elstone goes after a short ball but top edges it to mid-on where Scott Borthwick clings on. At the halfway stage, the Jets are firmly on top with the Falcons struggling on 66-6.

9th over. Derbyshire Falcons 62-5: WICKET! Collingwood traps Madsen lbw, as the Derbyshire man shuffles across his stumps and is struck on the pad. The visitors have gone from 29-1 to 62-5 thanks to some superb bowling and excellent fielding.

8th over. Derbyshire Falcons 57-4: CLOSE! Hastings bangs the ball in short and North, a fellow Australian, tries to pull the ball away but can only get a glove to the delivery. The ball trickles just wide of the leg stump and North survives. Hastings then over-steps and concedes a free hit, which Madsen thumps towards the extra cover boundary but Gordon Muchall runs round from long-off to field the ball superbly. WICKET! Hastings is jubilant as North slices his final delivery to Collingwood at points and Hastings finishes with fine figures of 4-26.

7th over. Derbyshire Falcons 51-3:
With the powerplay overs finished, Mark Stoneman keeps just four men inside the 30 yard circle and spreads the rest of his fielders to various points on the boundary. Paul Collingwood is the new bowler from the Finchale End and he allows the Derbyshire batsmen, Wayne Madsen and Marcus North, to gather just four runs.

6th over. Derbyshire Falcons 47-3. The dangerous Hughes smacks Hastings down the ground for another boundary but then WICKET! The Jets star strikes back as a full-length delivery bowls Hughes for 30 from 16 balls. The ball looked to be an off-cutter that just touched the pad before hitting leg stump. Hastings now has impressive figures of 3-20 from three overs.

5th over. Derbyshire Falcons 42-2:
After a five minute stoppage for rain, the players return to the field and Ryan Pringle is into the attack. Pringle picked up a 2:1 in his degree last week – he’d settle for those figures today! Unfortunately, Hughes takes a liking to facing a spinner in the powerplay overs and smacks consecutive boundaries to move on to 26 from 14 balls.

4th over. Derbyshire Falcons 30-2:
Hastings is frustrated as an edge from Hughes zips wide of Breese, who is standing at slip. DRAMA! Cross slices a ball high into the air and Mustard takes the catch. But the umpires check to see if it’s a no-ball and it is! So Cross is called back and the batsmen have a free hit. Hughes can only stub out a single and then WICKET! Cross slaps the ball to point where Collingwood dives to his right to take a fine catch. RAIN! Now the rain is falling here and the players have had to leave the field.

3rd over. Derbyshire Falcons 21-1: SIX! Just as in the start of the previous over, a Derbyshire batsmen hits a six with the first delivery. This time it’s the muscular left-hander Hughes who clubs Arshad over the mid-wicket rope. Arshad bowls a slower ball that defeats Cross, but the former Lancashire man then laps a four through backward square leg.

2nd over. Derbyshire Falcons 10-1: SIX! A short ball by John Hastings from the Lumley End allows Durston to move across his stumps and scoop the ball over the long leg boundary. WICKET! Hastings exacts almost immediate revenge as he traps Durston lbw two balls later. New man Gareth Cross can’t get off the mark as he then plays out three dots.

1st over. Derbyshire Falcons 4-0: A fairly quiet opening over from Usman Arshad as Chesney Hughes and Wes Durston pick up four singles before an aborted run has Durston scrambling back into his ground as a throw is hurled at the non-strikers end. The ball hits Durston’s bat and that’s end of the over.
