Paul Coughlin scored an unbeaten 54 as the Second XI drew with Lancashire in a hard fought encounter at Brandon.
Opening on 159/8, the ninth wicket partnership lasted just 11 more runs before Gurman Randhawa claimed the final two wickets.
Randhawa had Toby Lester caught by Stuart Poynter before top-scorer Stephen Parry was also caught, handing the spinner a fourth wicket.
With a victory target of over 300, the draw always looked the most likely result for Durham.
Both openers fell relatively early before Calum MacLeod and Poynter put on 83 for the third wicket.
Three middle-order wickets scuppered any hopes of a victory push, leaving Coughlin and Asher Hart to settle for a draw.
The skipper notched another half century while Hart scored two from 58 balls.
Close, Day Two: Lancashire (338 & 159/8) lead Durham (193; Coughlin 56) by 304 runs
Eighteen wickets fell on the second day of the Second XI Championship match between Durham & Lancashire at Brandon CC.
Paul Coughlin’s 56 hauled the hosts up to 193 after they earlier dropped to 126/7.
In reply, Lancashire stuttered themselves and reached 34/4 at tea with Gurjit Sandhu taking two wickets.
They fell further in the mire in reaching 80/8 until Stephen Parry and Toby Lester put on 79 for the ninth wicket to give Lancashire control.
Resuming on 23/0, Phil Mustard and Adam Hickey stretched their partnership beyond 50 until the former fell to Jordan Clark.
Regular wickets then checked their stride before a cluster of three wickets for five runs left them reeling on 126/7.
Coughlin’s intervention ensured they would avoid the follow-on, hitting 3x4s and 4x6s in the process of making 56.
He fell to Danny Lamb and the final two were removed in quick fashion to leave Durham all out on 193.
The quick wickets either side of tea left Durham right back in the game but Parry and Lester’s intervention has handed the initiative back to the Red Rose.

Jordan Clark, brother of Durham’s Graham, hit a century but Durham bowled Lancashire out for 338 on Day One of the Second XI Championship match at Brandon CC.
Gurman Randhawa and Gurjit Sandhu both took three wickets as the visitors recovered from 51/3 to post a big total.
Opener Luis Reece added 66 to his century the previous day as Jamie Harrison, Adam Hickey and Matthew Potts also took a wicket each.
In reply, Durham reached 23/0 with Hickey (7*) and Phil Mustard (16*) the unbeaten batsmen.
Lancashire elected to bat first after winning the toss and lost three wickets inside the first session as pace bowlers Harrison, Sandhu and Potts all struck.
But Clark and Reece, who both have extensive first XI experience, put on 136 for the fourth wicket.
Sandhu returned to bowl Reece but Clark continued on his way to three figures, a knock that included 14x4s and 3x6s.
He was the sixth man out, caught behind off Randhawa, but the final four wickets added 117 to frustrate the hosts.
