Durham’s second string bowed out of T20 Finals Day at the semi-final stage after a narrow eight-run defeat against Middlesex at Arundel.

Middlesex, eventual winners of the competiton, racked up 199/5 in their innings after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Phil Mustard got off to a flier and was ably backed up by half-centuries from Calum MacLeod and top-scorer Gordon Muchall.

Middle-order wickets checked Durham’s momentum and they fell behind the rate after being ahead at halfway.

Muchall continued for an unbeaten 56 but wickets fell around him as Neil Killeen’s men fell eight runs short.
