Durham’s Second XI wrapped up a comprehensive 187-run over Northants after a sporting declaration on the final day at Emirates Riverside.

With no play possible on Day Two, Northants declared on their first innings score of 38/2.

Despite having a lead of over 300, Durham elected to bat for two overs and extend their lead before setting Northants 332 to win.

The extra 20 runs came in two overs at the cost of two wickets; Ryan Pringle & Matty Potts.

Harry Hovey struck two boundaries in a four-ball 10 not out.

Northants lost their first wicket inside the sixth over and despite a 27-run stand for the second wicket, their batsmen fell at regular intervals.

Matty Potts struck twice, Pringle bowled Saif Zaib and Lloyd Paternott lobbed a Gurjit Sandhu ball straight to mid-on.

And when David Murphy, Northants’ top-scorer in Monday’s Trophy match, perished to Potts the game was looking towards a swift afternoon conclusion.

A stand of 53 for the eighth wicket only served to prolong the inevitable conclusion and it was devastating when it arrived, with three wickets falling on 144.

George Harding removed two for as many runs while Gurman Randhawa pouched a caught and bowled chance.
