Mark Wood to make four-day comeback at Taunton

Mark Wood is set to make a long-awaited return to Specsavers County Championship action tomorrow as Durham take on Somerset at Taunton.

Wood has impressed in limited-overs outings but has not played in the longest format since picking up an ankle injury in England’s Test against Pakistan in October 2015.

His only red ball appearance came as a batsman-only in a friendly against Sri Lanka ‘A’ at Emirates Riverside.

And after taking eight wickets across three matches in the England Lions tri-series before an explosive performance against the Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday, Wood has been cleared for a bowling return to long-format cricket.

Head coach Jon Lewis has also been boosted by the fitness of Paul Collingwood, with the skipper included in a travelling 13-man squad after a calf injury against Yorkshire on Sunday.

Durham are 13 points off leaders Middlesex with a game in hand, meaning a win would preserve an unbeaten record and take them top of the table.

Adam Hickey retains his place in the squad after seeing the side home with 21* in a thrilling encounter against Lancashire last time while Ireland wicketkeeper Stuart Poynter also travels.

Play starts at 11am and regular updates are available on our Twitter account (@DurhamCricket), with live commentary on the BBC Sport website.
