Stokes & Wood return for Surrey clash

England pair Ben Stokes and Mark Wood return to the squad for tomorrow’s penultimate Specsavers County Championship clash against Surrey at Emirates Riverside (10:30am start).

Both have been given clearance from the ECB to play following the conclusion of the international summer at Emirates Old Trafford last Wednesday.

The former contributed 201 runs in the Royal London One-Day Series win, including two half centuries, while Wood managed seven wickets in four matches

Stokes, fresh from signing a new contract at the club, appeared in four Specsavers County Championship fixtures earlier in the summer, taking 14 wickets and scoring one half century, while his England ally has seven wickets from two games.

And both will be looking to make significant contributions against a Surrey side who confirmed their Division One status with a draw against Hampshire during the week.

Also returning to the squad is Brydon Carse for the first time since May after he appeared in the Second XI’s Championship victory last week, while Stuart Poynter is fit after recovering from the illness that left him out of the Yorkshire clash.

Paul Coughlin (hamstring) and Usman Arshad (ankle) miss the game with knocks.

Play commences at 10:30am for each day of this game due to the earlier start times in September.
