Lewis names 13 for final match of 2016

Durham head coach Jon Lewis has named a 13-man squad for the final Specsavers County Championship match at Hampshire (10:30am start).

After securing safety with a nail-biting 21-run win over Surrey last week, Lewis’ side know they can finish as high as fourth in the final standings.

Five more points are required to overtake last week’s opponents although Lancashire – a further 16 points back – could still go past both sides with a big win over Warwickshire, pending Durham’s points haul.

If Lancashire were to record a maximum 24-point win, Durham would need nine to unequivocally secure fourth spot.

All-rounder James Weighell is included in the squad for the jaunt to the south coast.

Weighell has not featured in first team action since sustaining an injury against Nottinghamshire at the end of May.

Up until that point, the 22-year-old had impressed in the First XI with three consecutive career-best bowling performances, culminating in taking 5/33 to set up a sensational victory against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Upon his return from injury, Weighell has continued to impress for the Second string and captained the side to Championship glory.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes is again available but Mark Wood is rested before the tour of Bangladesh.

Ireland duo Barry McCarthy and Stuart Poynter are away on international duty for the upcoming ODIs against South Africa & Australia.

Jack Burnham misses out with a knee injury but Chris Rushworth is recalled after being rested against Surrey.
