Groundstaff recognised at ECB awards

By Luke Bidwell

Durham’s groundstaff have been recognised at the ECB’s annual awards held at The Brightside Ground, Bristol.

The team, lead by head groundsman Vic Demain, picked up a commendation for one-day pitches in the 2016 season.

It rounds off a successful year for the groundstaff, who also finished as runner-up in the IOG Professional Cricket Grounds Team of the Year.

Demain was also presented with a special award for producing his first Test match pitch earlier this year.

Though he has worked at Trent Bridge previously, the Test match between England and Sri Lanka at Emirates Riverside was his first surface as a head groundsman.

Yorkshire’s Andy Fogarty won Groundsman of the Year while Nottinghamshire’s Steve Birks won the one-day award.
