Jennings strikes ton on Lions debut

Keaton Jennings’ remarkable 48 hours continued as he scored an unbeaten century as captain on England Lions debut as they defeated the UAE by eight wickets.

Less than two days after being called up to the full side, the left-hander scored his first white ball century with 101 not out to lead a chase of 175.

He is due to play in Saturday’s second match before flying to India in preparation for the fourth Test match in Mumbai.

Captain Jennings admitted it “could not have gone much better”, with Stuart Meaker taking four wickets to restrict the hosts to 174 in Dubai.

“It was our first game together in the field after six or seven weeks, and a really enjoyable experience captaining the team,” he said afterwards.

“It was a decent wicket, so to keep them down to 170-odd was a really good effort.

“And then to spend some time in the middle for me was great, even if they were one-day runs – which is obviously a bit different to how things will be in India.”
