Jennings tons up on international bow

Keaton Jennings has scored a magical debut hundred on his Test debut against India in Mumbai.

Jennings made history as the 19th man to score a debut hundred for England and became just the fourth man to do it on his first day of Test cricket.

The 24-year-old was confirmed as Alastair Cook’s opening partner on the eve of the game and was thrust into action after the skipper elected to bat first upon winning the toss.

He passed 50 in a 99-run partnership with the skipper and went on to complete his century after tea in fine style with a reverse sweep.

Jennings follows in the footsteps of eight other Durham players to have played for England at Test match level and the tenth to play in all formats.

Simon Brown, Steve Harmison, Paul Collingwood, Liam Plunkett, Graham Onions and Scott Borthwick are the others to star in Tests alongside current stars Ben Stokes & Mark Wood.

Phil Mustard completes the ten as he appeared in 12 limited-overs internationals.

It caps a fine year for the left-hander after a sensational season at county level, where he finished top of the Specsavers County Championship run-scorers and scooped five awards at the Player of the Year dinner.

He made a club record seven centuries, including two unbeaten double hundreds, and averaged 64.50 in the first-class game.

Jennings was out in Dubai with the England Lions when he received the call, proceeding to captain them and score an unbeaten hundred on his debut against the UAE.
