Seconds defeated by Wood century

Durham 2nd XI (224/9; Reeves 54*) lost to Nottinghamshire 2nd XI (328/7; Wood 121, Smith 93; Main 3/69) by 104 runs

Scorecard

A strong showing by the tail-end could not prevent the Seconds from falling to a 104-run defeat to Nottinghamshire in the Second XI Trophy at Emirates Riverside.

Notts posted 328/7 from their 50 overs with Luke Wood notching a century at the top of the order.

Durham dropped to 104/7 in reply & despite the best efforts of Stephen Reeves, who scored 54 with support from the lower order.

But the loss of early wickets proved too big an obstacle to overcome & the visitors ran out comfortable winners.

Gavin Main was the pick of the Durham bowlers with three wickets while Graham Onions bowled seven overs for one wicket, keeping up his fitness should head coach Jon Lewis require him for Royal London One-Day Cup services.

Two big partnerships, first between Wood & Greg Smith worth 147 before Smith & Jake Libby added 96, to take the game away from Durham in the middle overs.

Wickets at the end of the innings reigned the score in but after a good start, Durham’s chase faltered through the middle overs.

Gareth Harte & Cameron Steel both made 26 but a glut of wickets left Durham decimated from 74/1 to 104/7.

Reeves’ unbeaten knock was well supported by Graham Onions (25) & an unbroken last wicket stand of 61 with Gavin Main (18*).

But it was too little, too late & leaves Neil Killeen’s side with two defeats from two in the Second XI Trophy.

The three-day game begins at Emirates Riverside today (11am start).
