Under-15’s begin with Lancashire victory

Durham Women’s Under-15 got their 2017 season off to a flier yesterday (18 May) with a huge victory over Lancashire.

The 40-over match, played at Lintz CC, was their first outing & the hard work during a long off-season showed as they overcame one of the country’s strong outfits.

After losing the toss, Durham restricted the visitors to 157/6 following a strong effort in the field.

Layla Tipton was the pick of the bowlers, returning three maidens in eight overs for figures of 2/19, while Kelsey Potter also grabbed two wickets.

Tipton also managed a run out while Erin Denyer took the other wicket to fall.

A strong opening stand of 41 between the skipper, Tipton, & Madeline Atkinson set them off but two quick wickets could have stalled the chase.

However, a stunning partnership of 88 between Jessica Woolston & Hollie Forsyth put Durham on the brink of victory.

Woolston made a half-century before falling LBW but Forsyth saw it through to the end, finishing unbeaten on 41 to secure an outstanding win with more than eight overs to spare.
