Three added for Championship return at Sussex

As many as three players could make their seasonal Specsavers County Championship debut as head coach Jon Lewis names a 13-man squad to travel to Sussex (11am start).

James Weighell, George Harding & Gavin Main are all part of the squad travelling to Hove for the third Championship match of the season.

All-rounder Weighell managed 16 wickets in three four-day matches last season, including a best of 5/33 against Warwickshire, & impressed in the recent Royal London One-Day Cup campaign with 18 wickets.

Fast bowler Gavin Main could add to his one first-class appearance for the club, which game against Nottinghamshire in 2014, while George Harding is yet to appear in first-class cricket but did establish himself in the side during the One-Day Cup.

The tall left-arm spinner took four wickets & went at an inexpensive 5.34 runs-per-over in his five outings.

Michael Richardson misses out with a groin injury picked up in Tuesday’s defeat to Lancashire Lightning, while Mark Wood is away with the England squad ahead of the One-Day International series with South Africa. Barry McCarthy is also on international duty with Ireland.

Jack Burnham & Usman Arshad are recovering well from a broken thumb & ankle surgery respectively, though this game comes too soon for both.

A victory at Hove would make it four successive wins over Sussex & hand Durham a minimum of 16 points in the quest to return to positive points.

Live commentary of every ball from Hove is available via the BBC Sport website, with regular updates available on the club’s official Twitter account.
