McCarthy back for Glamorgan

Barry McCarthy has returned from Ireland duty & is included in a 13-man squad to face Glamorgan in the Specsavers County Championship match at St Helen’s, Swansea tomorrow (11am start).

The pace bowler arrived back at Emirates Riverside earlier this week & played in two days of the Second XI match against Leicestershire, taking three wickets.

McCarthy has spent large parts of the early season with Ireland, first in the two One-Day Internationals against England followed by the Tri-Series against New Zealand & Bangladesh.

He managed 2/61 at Lord’s & followed up with five wickets in four matches against the latter two nations.

The Irishman replaces Graham Onions in the squad, the only change from the side that travelled to Hove to face Sussex. Onions will undergo further assessment on a back injury that limited his involvement in that match.

Durham are aiming for a first four-day win of the season on a ground where they have only played once way back in 1995, a six-wicket victory.

This is the first meeting between the sides since 2004, when Marcus North scored 219 in a rain-affected draw at Cardiff.

Live commentary of the match is available via BBC Sport with full updates via the club’s official Twitter account.
