Jennings skippers Lions against South Africa ‘A’

Keaton Jennings will again captain England Lions in the upcoming four-day match against their South African counterparts at the Spitfire Ground, Canterbury (21-24 June).

Jennings, who skippered the side on the tour to Sri Lanka, continues in the role as he targets a berth in the Test squad against South Africa next month.

He also captained them on tour in Dubai at the end of last year, scoring a century in his first match before receiving a call-up to the full national side after two matches.

The left-hander then scored a memorable hundred against India in his first innings before adding a half century in his second Test.

As a consequence of his Lions call-up, he will miss Durham’s Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan starting next Monday, 19 June.

Jennings could be re-united at the top of the order with ex-Durham man Mark Stoneman, who receives his first Lions call-up, though the pair have stiff competition in Lancashire’s Haseeb Hameed & Middlesex’s Nick Gubbins.

A separate Lions squad will be named next week for a three-day match at Worcester starting on 29 June.
