Steel signs new deal until 2019

Durham batsman Cameron Steel has extended his contract until the end of the 2019 County season.

The former Middlesex, right-handed opener, who signed developmental terms at Durham after impressing for the Second XI last season, has featured across all formats during the current campaign and scored a sensational maiden century against Northamptonshire in June.

Steel, who had previously captained Durham MCCU, has reached 500 Specsavers County Championship runs this season, averaging 35.7 with one ton and two half-centuries.

“I’m delighted that Cameron has signed a new deal at the club,” Head Coach, Jon Lewis said.

“He’s demonstrated real talent this year and contributed well in both the red and white ball format.

“He’s a good character to have in the dressing room and someone who has benefited greatly from a good run in the team this season.

“His continuous improvement with the bat has been extremely pleasing and we’re keen to develop his role as a leg spinning all-rounder going forward.”
