Seconds miss out on Finals Day

Match One scorecard & Match Two scorecard

Durham’s Second XI missed out on T20 Finals Day after suffering a double defeat to MCC Unis in the final round of fixtures.

Neil Killeen’s side travelled to Merchant Taylor’s knowing a pair of wins would keep them in contention for the last four for a third consecutive season.

But leg-spinner Kiel van Vollenhoven took combined figures of 7/22 off seven overs across both matches to cause batting collapses in both innings.

In the first match, van Vollenhoven ran through the middle order in taking a five-wicket haul as Durham were all out for 113 chasing the hosts’ 184/4.

Brydon Carse, making a return to bowling on his 22nd birthday, took 2/29 to be the pick of the bowlers.

The reply started strongly with Liam Trevaskis (31) leading the charge but as the required run-rate spiralled, wickets tumbled to leave Killeen’s side 71 runs short.

In game two, Durham batted first & recovered from two early wickets to put 63 on for the third wicket between Carse (42) & Scott Steel (41).

But from a strong position of 72/2 at halfway, they could only make 118/8 with only Usman Arshad making it into double figures.

Josh Coughlin struck with consecutive balls in the fourth over of the MCC’s reply but Joe Barrett hit a rapid 63 from 32 balls, including five maximums, as they coasted to victory inside 14 overs.
