Paul Collingwood: The oldest T20 centurion

Durham all-rounder Paul Collingwood continues to break records in his 22nd year as a first-class cricketer with the county.

The 41-year-old smashed his way to a first T20 century in Sunday’s defeat over Worcestershire Rapids – & wrote his name into the record books again during the process.

His unbeaten 108 off 60 balls at New Road, including four towering sixes, meant he became Durham’s first centurion in T20 cricket since the format’s inception in 2003.

He also became the oldest cricketer in the world to score a hundred in the shortest format of the game.

Aged 41 years & 65 days, Collingwood beat ex-Worcestershire player Graeme Hick (41y 37d) after his 110 against Northamptonshire in 2007. Mahela Jayawardene, Adam Gilchrist & Sanath Jayasuriya make up the rest of the top five.

It follows on from what has already been a remarkable summer for the ex-England T20 captain.

Earlier in the NatWest T20 Blast competition, he had bowled more balls than anyone without being hit for six & currently still leads Durham’s run-scorers & wicket-takers in this year’s tournament, sending down more overs than any other Jets bowler.

Collingwood, winner of the Eden Mill Player of the Month award for both May & June, has also been in fine form in the Specsavers County Championship.

A haul of 763 runs, including two centuries, makes him Division Two’s second highest run-scorer after enjoying a spree of six half-centuries in seven innings through May & June.

Come & see the legend himself in action this coming Friday (4 August) when the Jets take on Yorkshire Vikings in the NatWest T20 Blast. Book tickets online or call the Box Office on 0844 499 4466.
