Burnham stars but Seconds defeated

Match scorecard

Jack Burnham top-scored with 80 but the Seconds dropped to a seven-wicket defeat against Yorkshire in a one-day friendly at Emirates Riverside.

The right-hander led a recovery after Neil Killeen’s men dropped to 15/3 following the visitors’ decision to bowl first at Emirates Riverside.

Regular mid-innings wickets kept them on top until a partnership of 69 between Burnham & Harry Podmore lifted Durham towards a respectable score.

The 20-year-old fell in the 36th over, striking 12 boundaries in a 90-ball knock, but Podmore made it to 47 before edging Ed Barnes behind.

With the match played on the same wicket as Sunday’s Twenty20 & a short boundary one side, Durham needed early wickets but came up against a 75-run opening stand.

Ben Whitehead removed Bilal Anjan, caught by George Harding for 40, before the left-arm spinner took a return catch to dismiss Will Rhodes on 27.

Whitehead also removed number four, Matthew Waite, but the game was all-but up & Yorkshire cruised to victory.

The sides will now compete in a Second XI Championship clash at Emirates Riverside, with entry free for all three days.
