All-rounder Brydon Carse is in contention to play his first four-day match since April after being named in a 13-man squad for tomorrow’s Specsavers County Championship match against Sussex at Emirates Riverside.
The 22-year-old could feature after an injury which has thus far restricted him to one first-class fixture in 2017, the draw away at Gloucestershire.
He rebuilt fitness for the Second XI as a batsman-only, later resuming bowling duties, & also played twice towards the end of Durham Jets’ NatWest T20 Blast campaign.
Josh Coughlin is also included in a 13-man squad. The all-rounder made his first-class debut against Sri Lanka ‘A’ last year & has impressed during the back end of the Seconds’ season.
Elder brother Paul & Barry McCarthy both miss out through a side injury & broken thumb respectively.
The game also comes too soon for Mark Wood, who will stay with the squad with a view to being available for next week’s season-closer at Worcestershire.
Coming off the back of a seven-game unbeaten streak, Durham are aiming to finish on a high & avenge the big defeat to Sussex earlier in the season.
Jon Lewis’ side have won the last four home fixtures between the two sides & only one of the last 12 games between the sides has finished in a draw.
The match starts at 10:30am with live commentary of each day available via BBC Sport online.
