Latham set to sign for 2018

Overseas batsman Tom Latham has been recalled by Cricket New Zealand ahead of their international tour schedule but Durham County Cricket Club is delighted to announce he is set to agree terms to return to Emirates Riverside next season.

The deal is subject to his New Zealand duties but should be concluded over the next few days.

Latham added steel to the top of the Blast order during 2017, scoring 139 runs in five innings, but also impressed against the red ball.

He started his Durham career in strong fashion, making a Specsavers County Championship debut ton at Leicestershire & following up with 62 in the NatWest T20 Blast match against Worcestershire Rapids.

Another century against former club Kent and 77 in the most recent fixture against Sussex made it 382 runs in just seven innings’ – an average of over 60.

“Tom has made a fantastic contribution on and off the field during his time here at Durham,” said Head Coach Jon Lewis.

“His performances with the bat have been excellent and he is a big influence in the dressing room.

“Myself and the players are delighted that he will be returning for the entire 2018 campaign”.

The 25-year-old will now undergo training & specialist keeping work ahead of NZ’s limited-over matches in India next month. As a consequence, he will miss Durham’s final Specsavers County Championship match at Worcestershire next week.

The Club would like to thank Tom for his service during his time at Emirates Riverside & wish him well for New Zealand’s upcoming internationals.
