Durham’s two-day friendly against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors’ has been completely abandoned.
After yesterday’s first day was abandoned shortly before midday, persistent heavy rain ensured the second day also followed the same way.
It followed the washout of the Cambridge MCCU fixture in the two days prior.
Despite the poor weather, the squad were able to undertake outdoor practice & head coach Jon Lewis says it was a valuable trip despite the match abandonments.
“Not being able to play a single ball of either friendly was obviously frustrating, but we’ve made the most of the trip south & come back in better shape for it,” Lewis said.
“We’ve still managed to have three full days of practice on grass wickets & an outdoor fielding session.
“Despite the rain over the last few days, we’ve also had two good sessions in the tent at Merchant Taylors’, which has allowed us to stay on track in our pre-season plans.
“We’re very grateful to the staff at Downing College Sports Grounds & Merchant Taylors’ for facilitating us over the last few days.”
With next week’s home match against Yorkshire also falling to the elements, Lewis & his side will now prepare for the visit of Durham MCCU on Friday, 13 April.
