One change for Leicestershire visit

Jon Lewis has named one change to the squad ahead of tomorrow’s Specsavers County Championship match against Leicestershire at Emirates Riverside (11am start).

Josh Coughlin drops out of the squad from last week’s washed out fixture against Northamptonshire, with Gareth Harte coming back into the 12 to add another batting option.

Cameron Steel is set for his first appearance of the season after missing the Kent match through illness. He scored 44 in a friendly against Leicestershire’s second string last week.

With a defeat & abandonment coming from the opening two fixtures, Lewis & his side are targeting a victory to kickstart the Championship season at the beginning of May.

The visitors currently lie seventh in Division Two after two solid showings in the opening rounds under new head coach Paul Nixon.

Leicestershire may be able to call upon former Durham players Varun Aaron & Ben Raine for their trip to the North East.

Squad vs Leicestershire (4-7 May)

Paul Collingwood (c), Aiden Markram, Cameron Steel, Will Smith, Gareth Harte, Graham Clark, Michael Richardson, Stuart Poynter (wk), Nathan Rimmington, James Weighell, Barry McCarthy, Chris Rushworth

Last time out

Durham (525/8d; Steel 224, Latham 124, Richardson 82) drew with Leicetershire (124/4; Potts 2/30)

Despite dominating all six sessions of play, Durham could only leave Leicestershire with a draw in last season’s Specsavers County Championship meeting at Grace Road.

Few people have had more memorable matches against the Foxes as Cameron Steel became the youngest double centurion in the Club’s first-class history, scoring 224 as the backbone behind Durham’s biggest score against the hosts.

Tom Latham, playing his maiden first-class game for Durham, also scored a century as the pair put on a lofty 234 for the first wicket, while Michael Richardson’s 82 helped his side past the 500 mark.

The evening session on Day Two brought four wickets as Durham closed well on top, with Matthew Potts continuing to impress since his introduction into the First XI.

But what looked like a certain victory ended in disappointment as the weather intervened for the final two days, wiping out any prospect of play.
