Trophy defeat seals North Group fate

Result: Nottinghamshire 2nd XI (119/7; McCarthy 3/28) beat Durham 2nd XI (115; Steel 40; Blatherwick 4/27) by 3 wickets

A three-wicket defeat at the hands of Nottinghamshire has knocked Durham’s Seconds out of the Trophy with one game to play.

In a low-scoring encounter, Durham were bowled out for just 115 before making a spirited defence of their total.

Barry McCarthy & Gavin Main ripped through the top order, leaving Notts five down with just 45 on the board in their chase.

But some resistance from the middle order of Kamau Leverock & Matt Milnes helped steady the ship, with the latter’s top score of 32 proving the difference.

With two wins & three defeats from five matches, Neil Killeen’s side cannot reach leaders Warwickshire & Worcestershire, who have eight points apiece.

Scott Steel followed up his century during the Championship game earlier in the week with an important 40 to save Durham from a position of 71/7.

Durham’s final trophy fixture comes against Lancashire at Emirates Riverside on Monday before they contest a three-day fixture.
