Durham Cricket Academy drew with Eppleton CC in the North East Premier League Premier Division on Saturday after a tense finish at Emirates Riverside.
Durham won the toss and put Eppleton into bat, with the visitors going on to score 187-9 from 58 overs. Matty Oswell (pictured) was the pick of the Durham bowlers as he picked up impressive figures of 3-34 off 12 overs.
Faizan Hussain and Adam Ahmed chipped in with 2 wickets each to help put the hosts in a strong position, with Eppleton opening batsman Luke Henderson top scoring before being removed by Ahmed for 54.
In reply Durham were three wickets down early on before Harry Adair came in to steady the ship with a well made 58 off 84 balls. Unfortunately, Adair was only joined in double figures by Luke Doneathy who made 13.
It was left to the last pair of Faizan Hussain and Will Angus to doggedly bat out time and secure the draw at 118-9.
In the Under-17 championship Durham lost heavily to rivals Yorkshire at Darlington. Durham won the toss and decided to bat but could only manage 185 all out from 81 overs with opener Johnny Pears top scoring with 79.
The visitors then took control of the match by scoring an impressive 399-8 declared. Alex Senior excelled with the ball for Durham taking 5-68 off 15 overs.
But Durham’s batsman were bundled out for just 94 in reply as Yorkshire won by an innings and 120 runs. Johnny Bushnell top scored with 36 second time around.
In the younger age groups the under-12s had an impressive win over Bedfordshire, while the under-13s completed a thrilling two-run victory against Northumberland.
The under-15s enjoyed a mixed couple of days in the group stage of the ECB County Cup thanks to a nine wicket win over Lincolnshire on Monday before a 10 run defeat to Cricket Scotland on Tuesday. On Thursday, he 15s completed a great week with a two wicket victory over North Yorkshire Schools at Northallerton.
