Academy suffer double Bank Holiday blues

Durham Cricket Academy suffered back-to-back North East Premier League Premier Division defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend.

They remain in eighth out of 12 after defeats north of the Tyne against Newcastle & Tynemouth.

In Saturday’s match, Newcastle won the toss at Jesmond and elected to put the visitors in to bat. Skipper Ross Greenwell top scored with 55 & was supported by Harry Adair who made 43, but the rest of the card was disappointing as Durham limped to 133 all out from 41 overs.

The hosts knocked the runs off inside 35 overs thanks mainly to 72 from Alex Simpson. Greenwell (2/6), Faizan Hussain and Adam Ahmed shared Durham’s four wickets between them.

Durham were again inserted at Tynemough & made 157, where Ben Seabrook top scored with a well made 50. Tynemouth’s reply was held together by 79 from Durham’s Michael Jones as they won by 4 wickets inside 46 overs. Hussain took 3-41 from 12.2 overs while Greenwell took 2-30 off 9 overs.

Northern Jets Academy beat Berkshire U21’s in a one-day game by 3 wickets thanks to 63 from Bailey Wanless and 57 from Lizzie Scott.

In other news, Lancashire U11 girls beat Durham U13’s in two T20 friendly matches. Durham U14 boys suffered a similar defeat to Lancashire in a one-day game at Newton Le Willows.

Durham U17 women were awarded a championship victory as Cumbria conceded the match.
