Durham County Cricket Club’s Northern Jets Academy player Helen Fenby has been named in England Women’s winter training squad.
Fenby, who has been involved with the Northern Jets since its launch in 2016, is part of a group of twelve players that form the training squad, announced yesterday as part of restructured England Women’s Academy.
The training squad was named alongside the England Women’s Academy (EWA) selection, which now included a single squad only as opposed to previous years when the England Women’s Senior Academy (EWSA) was combined with the EWA.
The winter training squad is in place to offer support for players who are currently seen as having the potential to be part of the EWA in the future.
Northern Jets Head Coach James Lowe said: “In the past two years that Helen has been with us, she’s been fully committed to her development and she’s showed an impressive work ethic.
“She fully deserves the opportunity with England, given the hard work she’s put in her game.
“Helen is a good example to the rest of the girls that with hard work you can progress through and we hope that more of our players follow her footsteps.
“We wish her all the best and we’ll support her fully in anything she takes on.”
High Performance Manager for Women and Girls, Jonathan Finch, said to ECB: “Our slight structure change gives us a core group of 24 players who will be involved over the winter and will attend training when it is most appropriate for their development.
“Operating in this way allows us to work more effectively across skill-specific disciplines, develop key themes across the winter and raise awareness among players about what is required to progress or continue to improve.
“We think it’s a really exciting group with a lot of talent and we hope to help take them on to the next level over the next 12 months.”
