Chapman, Gidman join coaching staff

Durham Cricket is pleased to announce the appointments of Steven Chapman and Will Gidman to the backroom staff.

Both former players of the Club, Chapman joins as Batting and Spin Bowling Consultant while Gidman takes up the role of Assistant Academy Coach.

Chapman, who appeared in three first-class and three List A matches for the Club in 1998/99, will work with Durham’s batsmen & spinners alongside his role as Director of Coaching at South Northumberland CC.

The 47-year-old served as an Assistant and Batting Coach with IPL side Gujarat Lions back in 2017 and has previously worked with the Academy side at Durham in 2007 on an interim basis.

He has also worked in Director of Cricket roles for a number of Australian clubs and owned his own successful coaching business.

Gidman joins to work with the Academy side under the direction of current Academy Manager John Windows.

The 34-year-old made his first-class debut for Durham and also enjoyed spells at Gloucestershire, Nottinghamshire and Kent before retiring at the end of last season.

He briefly coached Kent’s second string last season and will now turn his hand to helping develop the next generation of cricketers in the North East.

Chapman will be with the squad during the pre-season tour of South Africa, with a squad to be announced on departure tomorrow morning.
