ABC will perform as very special guests at Tears for Fears’ Durham concert this summer.
The legendary pop band led by charismatic singer Martin Fry will be bringing their most popular hits to the stage at Emirates Riverside, home of Durham Cricket, on Saturday 27 July 2019 ahead of Tears for Fears who are delighted to perform their extensive catalogue of hits to their fans.
ABC has enjoyed a glittering career to date; resoundingly one of several groups who came along and kick-started the Eighties with their own brand of pop for a ‘new decade’. Led by singer Martin Fry, the band hailing from Sheffield fused the world of disco funk with their own unique new romantic post punk vision.
On its release in May 1982, their debut album The Lexicon of Love crashed straight into the UK album charts at Number One, showcasing the hits songs Tears Are Not Enough, Poison Arrow, The Look Of Love and All Of My Heart. A ground-breaking collection of modern love songs. Voted by many as the best British album of the decade, it remains a classic to this day.
Countless albums have followed, including Beauty Stab – with its much rawer, hard-edged sound, the unashamedly electronic How To Be A Zillionaire, Alphabet City, Up, the soul pop extravaganza that was Abracadabra, Skyscraping and Lexicon Of Live – with its live renditions of their debut album The Lexicon Of Love.
In 2016 ABC released The Lexicon Of Love II; their top five hit album and ‘Record of the Week’ on BBC Radio 2, containing the hit singles Viva Love and Flames Of Desire. Each album making it clear that ABC are constantly evolving with a plethora of musical influences, and yet remaining true to their roots, much to the delight of their fans.
Liz Doogan-Hobbs MBE, CEO of LHG Live said “Tears for Fears have amassed fans across the globe and continue to enthral through their unequivocal catalogue of hits. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with them this summer, and of course to now announce ABC as part of the line-up.”
Tickets for Tears for Fears with very special guests ABC at Emirates Riverside on Saturday 27 July 2019 are now on sale.
