Eckersley ton not enough as 2’s draw with Yorkshire

Day Three

Close, Day Three: Durham 2nd XI (294/7; Eckersley 109*, Greenwell 52; Waite 2/23) vs Yorkshire (213/6) 2nd XI ends as a draw.

Durham 2nd XI drew with Yorkshire after a heavily rain affected three days at Emirates Riverside.

Ned Eckersley scored an unbeaten century as Durham 2nd XI made 294/7 against a strong Yorkshire attack on Day One but no play on Day Two and just 54 overs on Day 3 meant the fixture ended as a draw.

Nathan Rimmington (2-12) got the wicket of Tim Bresnan for a duck and removed opening batsman Will Fraine for 35, however Yorkshire’s Jack Leaning (82*) batted confidently as his side ended the day 213/6.

Day Two

Close, Day Two: Durham 2nd XI (294/7; Eckersley 109*, Greenwell 52; Waite 2/23) vs Yorkshire 2nd XI

No play was possible on Day Two of the Second XI Championship match between Durham & Yorkshire.

Rain overnight meant a delayed start & it persisted throughout the morning.

An early lunch was called & shortly after at 1:30pm, the umpires called off play for the day.

The two sides will try again tomorrow, with Durham 294/7 after Day One with Ned Eckersley unbeaten on 109.

Day One

Close, Day One: Durham 2nd XI (294/7; Eckersley 109*, Greenwell 52; Waite 2/23) vs Yorkshire 2nd XI

Ned Eckersley scored an unbeaten century as Durham 2nd XI made 294/7 against a strong Yorkshire attack on Day One of the Second XI Championship match at Emirates Riverside.

The right-hander made his third century of the Second XI’s season so far, finishing on 109 not out to guide Durham to a good position at the close of play.

Ross Greenwell chipped in with a measured half century & Will Smith added 44 against an attack that included Tim Bresnan & Ben Coad.

Rain looks likely to threaten days two & three but Alan Walker’s side made the most of the 99 overs possible on the first day.

Two wickets fell quickly after a steady opening stand between Greenwell & Steel, but the former joined with Eckersley to put on 52 for the third wicket before the wicketkeeper added 75 with Will Smith.

Eckersley went to his ton in 166 balls with 12x4s & a six, finishing the day in a stand of 52 with Josh Coughlin.
