A number of the Durham Cricket squad visited the Great North Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary on Wednesday morning to meet some of the patients as part of the Durham Cricket Foundation’s link with the hospital.
After a quick game of cricket in the grounds of the hospital the players visited a number of wards where children were receiving treatment from the wonderful staff at the GNCH.
Along with chatting with children and their parents, the players handed out a number of gifts including signed match programmes and club t-shirts to all the patients.
Durham Cricket bowler Matthew Potts said: “It was inspiring to visit some of the children and their parents on the wards at the Great North Children’s Hospital – it really puts things in perspective.
“To see what these kids are going through is heartbreaking.
“We are very lucky to have world-class staff and facilities here in the North East, and it was a privilege to be asked to come and spend time with the children today – hopefully it brightened their days.”
