Ned Eckersley to captain Durham in County Championship

Durham Cricket are delighted to announce that Ned Eckersley will captain Durham for the remainder of the season in the Specsavers  County Championship, having agreed a new two year deal with the club keeping him at Emirates Riverside until 2021.

Eckersley who joined the club from Leicestershire during the closed season has impressed so far with both the bat and gloves as Durham look to gain promotion from Division 2.

The 30-year-old has amassed 526 runs this summer so far in the County Championship including scoring 118 against Sussex at Hove in June.

Since making his first-class debut for Leicestershire in 2011, Eckersley has scored over 6000 first class runs, including scoring 15 centuries and 21 half centuries.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “Since Ned’s arrival he has had a huge impact on and off the pitch.

“His leadership skills make him the perfect person to take over from our Club Captain, Cameron Bancroft.

“We are also extremely pleased to announce that Ned is extending his time with Durham until the end of the 2021 season”
