Scorer Development Programme a success

Scorers from around the region have this summer had the chance to score on the biggest stage in the county, Emirates Riverside.

As part of the scorer development programme introduced at the start of the season, local scorers from around Durham, Teesside and Northumberland have been able to score from the scorebox at Emirates Riverside.

The programme enables scorers to score locally on play cricket scorer, scoring ball by ball on the ECB’s newest scoring software.

The new scoring initiative enables promising scorers to have the chance to see how first-class scorers work on match day and the work which goes on, before, during and after the games.

All of Durham’s Royal London 50 over games and Vitality Blast T20 games have been covered this season as part of the development programme, with scorers scoring each game as if they were scoring at their own club on a match day.

Richard Dowson, Chief Operating Officer at Durham Cricket said: “It’s great to support an initiative that helps local, young scorers to develop their skills.

“It is vital that we keep encouraging people to become scorers as they provide such a vital service to the local clubs.

“We hope the programme continues to grow and that we can play our part in developing more talented, young scorers.”

Grahame Maddison, Durham 2XI scorer and development programme organiser added: “This is a unique opportunity for scorers in the region, to be part of the match day experience during a Durham game is excellent.

“Meeting first class umpires, first class scorers and Cricket Liaison Officers (CLO) is an opportunity which doesn’t come around often, so to be involved in the development programme enables scorers to be involved in the game outside of what they would normally do.

“The scorers we have had in this summer have been a credit to their clubs and we hope they have learned from the experience here at Durham Cricket.”

The development programme will continue next summer and more information on how you can get involved will follow during the winter.
