Academy U19s toil in Emirates Riverside defeat

Durham Academy U19s 203/10 (McCarthy 81) & 145 lost to Leicestershire and Rutland U19s 456/5 dec (Nightingale 159, A Patel 130, Law 82*) by an innings and 108 runs.

Durham’s Academy side suffered at two-day friendly defeat at the hands Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket Board despite a knock of 81 from wicket-keeper Jack McCarthy in the first innings.

Playing at Emirates Riverside, Durham’s Academy was put in to bat by the visitors and fell to 34/4 in the opening stages of the contest before Jack McCarthy and Matthew Adamson (17) put on a 72-run partnership.

Matthew Oswell (15*) and Chris Robb (30) helped the young Ds side to a total of 203 before the visitors set to work on building a huge total.

Durham’s bowlers toiled with Jack Nightingale and Aayush Patel hitting centuries and Max Law hitting a run a ball 82* before captain Nightingale decided to declare and push for the win.

The hosts were tasked with seeing out the days play to secure the draw with Marcus Brown (27), Rory Hanley (24) and Robb (38) the pick of the Durham batsman.
