Upper Hut United continued their unbeaten start to the season, making it six wins in six following a seven-wicket victory over North City on Saturday, putting them right in contention for promotion. Liam Trevaskis continued to be key, putting in another match winning performance with both bat and ball. Having lost the toss, Upper Hut United were asked to field, with Liam claiming four wickets for 37 runs from 8.4 overs bowled. Combining his wickets with Matt Taylor (3/13) and Nishant Desai (2/37), North City were bowled out for 171 in 41.4 overs. Despite losing two early wickets at 19/2, it was an easy chase for the visitors, as Thomas Jones scored an unbeaten 65, backed by 49 from skipper Taylor. Trevaskis then fired a 20-ball 31, to guide his team to victory in 21.5 overs, winning by seven wickets.
Cameron Steel was on the winning side as Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club earned two wins over the weekend – in the first game they defeated Melville on first-innings. Following on from last weekend, Melville closed on 31/2 and couldn’t get back on track when they returned to the pitch on Saturday. As they were bowled out for 128 in 49.6 overs. The Tigers then posted 130/8 before declaring, as they won on first innings at Tompkins Park.
They also enjoyed a Duckworth Lewis win in the Premier T20 against Bayswater-Morley, yesterday – batting first Bayswater-Morley could only manage to post 98 from their 20 overs, with none of the batters being able to get going. In reply Tim David scored 34 from 24 balls backed by 20 from Bradley Hope, as rain halted play after 11.3 overs – Claremont Nedlands winning by seven wickets.
Cameron Bancroft got this chance to lift some silverware as Western Australia enjoyed a four wicket win over Queensland in the Marsh One-Day Cup final in Brisbane. Shaun Marsh was key for Western Australia with an unbeaten 101 guiding his side to victory in the 48th over, chasing down 210. Bancroft added just eight runs at the top of the order as wickets tumbled around Marsh – who still stood firm in his132-ball innings, to get his team over the line.
Johnsonville Cricket Club went down by seven wickets against Hutt District Cricket Club at the Hut Recreational Ground. Batting first Jack Burnham’s club posted 202/8 from 50 overs. Rakitha Weerasundara led the way at the top of the order with 65 from 99 balls while Liam Burling added 55. Burnham scored 19 before being caught off the bowling of Brett Johnson who struck with 3/40. In reply, Hutt had no problems chasing the target set, securing their win in 36 overs. Burnham struck with 1/34 and claimed one catch.
Auckland University Cricket Club beat Suburbs New Lynn Cricket Club by an innings at Colin Maiden Park. Suburbs New Lynn were bowled out for 243 in 81.5 overs, Graham Clark bowling nine overs, three maidens for 11 runs. In reply, Auckland University posted a competitive 339/6 from 78 overs – in an innings filled with runs at the top of the pile. Clark added 19 before being trapped LBW. In reply, Suburbs New Lynn closed 46/0 from nine overs at the close of play.
