Laura Ellison and Lizzie Scott claimed two awards each, including Player of the Year for Durham Women and Girls’ Academy respectively, at Durham Cricket’s End of Season Women’s Presentation Evening held at Emirates Riverside.
Ellison was presented with the Player of the Year and Bowler of the Year for Durham Women by Head Coach Danielle Hazell for her consistently outstanding performance during a season which resulted in promotion to Division 1 in the ECB Women’s T20 League.
Scott scooped the Player of the Year and Batter of the Year for the Girls’ Academy after a successful season during which she demonstrated her undoubtful talent.
The Presentation Evening runs for a second consecutive year as a way to celebrate another successful summer for the female game across Durham.
Clubs and players from Durham’s T20 Women’s League attended alongside the Girls’ Academy and Senior Women.
Women’s Player of the Year Ellison scooped the award of the evening for her outstanding season for Durham Women. Ellison was consistent with the bat, scoring 163 runs in the 15 games this season, while demonstrating excellent fielding skills with 6 catches throughout the summer.
Ellison was also the leading wicket taker for Durham, picking up 24 throughout the campaign – a best of 3/12 against Essex at Rolleston Cricket Club – which earned her the Bowler of the Year award.
Her 24 wickets throughout the season, saw her finish 2019 the fourth leading wicket in both the ECB women’s divisions, three short of the top spot.
Ami Campbell claimed the 2019 Batter of the Year award for the Senior Women, having amassed 193 runs throughout the campaign, including a score of 48* not out against Worcestershire at Old Hill Cricket Club.
Lizzie Scott was awarded the Academy Player of the Year for her consistent and reliable contributions throughout the summer.
Her success with the bat, saw her accumulate 237 runs at an average of 33.86 with a best of 113 against Surrey Stars at the ECB Women’s Regional Development Competition held at Shrewsbury School – which saw her claim the Durham Cricket Academy Batter of the Year.
Bailey Wanless claimed the Bowler of the Year Award having impressed for the Academy – her most impressive spell coming against Lancashire Thunder, where she struck with five wickets for just ten runs.
The presentation evening also saw winners of the Women’s T20 League Philadelphia Cricket Club receive their trophy, after defending the title ahead of runners-up Leadgate Cricket Club and third-placed Willington Cricket Club.
With all six Women’s T20 League teams being represented, each club also awarded their player of the year.
