Girls’ Junior County Presentation Event recognises best county players of 2019

Durham Cricket recognised their most talented female county players at this year’s Girls’ Junior County Presentation evening.

Durham Cricket wrapped up another year of fantastic progress at county level by celebrating the successes of each girls’ county squad from Under-11 to Under-17.

Players were awarded trophies for best bowler and batter of the year with an overall player of the year being selected from each team.

Former England cricketer and Durham Cricket Women’s Lead High Performance Head Coach Danielle Hazell presented the winners with their well-deserved trophies.

Under-15’s and Under-17’s Shauna Yates, Under-15’s Lucy Hughes and Under-13’s Trudy Johnson scooped two awards at the event, which gathered all girls’ squads in one room to look back at the season.

Yates won the Bowler of the Year for the U15 and U17 Girls, taking 30 wickets – 22 for the U15 squad and 8 for the U17 side. Yates recoded her best bowling spell of 8-22 against Cumbria, as Durham’s U15 Girls won by 4 wickets.

Hughes was presented with the Batter of the Year award for the U15 Girls, having scored 146 runs during for the team, with highest score of 43 against Leicestershire and Ruthland Cricket Board.

Hughes was also named U15 Player of the Year for her contributions with the ball and as a captain. She took 13 wickets in 2019, with best bowling figures of 4-21 against Scotland, a fixture Durham won by 107 runs.

Trudy Johnson was the U13 Girls’ Batter of the Year with impressive season figures of 330 runs, including a century against Northumberland.

Johnson also made contributions with the ball and on the field and for her outstanding performance during the year she scooped the U13 Player of the Year.

Johnson took 11 fielding catches and 11 wickets, with best bowling for 3-3 against Cumbria, a game Durham won by 68 runs.
