Jack Burnham scored 100 in vain as Johnsonville Cricket Club suffered a 4-wicket loss to Upper Hut United as the cricket season continued after the Christmas period.
There was a familiar sight in the opposition for Burnham as he went up against Durham team mate Liam Trevaskis in the latest round of the Premier T20 Cup.
Upper Hut United won the toss and elected to bowl with Trevaskis instantly troubling the batters – dismissing both openers reducing Johnsonville to 4/2. However, Burnham came to the forefront with an unbeaten century from 60 balls with six fours and eight sixes as he helped his side to 158/3 from 20 overs.
In reply Upper Hut United lost two early wickets, being reduced to 33/2 but Nishant Desai was key for his side with a quick fire 53 from 35 balls – helping his side to victory with six balls remaining, chasing down 158 to win by 4 wickets. Burnham was also in the wickets picking up two for 40.
Cameron Bancroft helped Perth Scorchers reach a huge 213/3 against Brisbane Heat in their latest Big Bash League T20 fixture. Mitchell Marsh (93*) powered the Scorchers to their highest BBL score of all time, securing a 34-run victory at Perth Stadium. Bancroft was part of a 124-run partnership with Marsh adding an unbeaten 41*.
Somerset batsman Tom Banton hit a quick fire 55 in reply but struggled to find anyone to support him as the Scorchers claimed the win by 34 runs.
Graham Clark was on top form with both bat and ball as Auckland University secured a 55-run win over Cornwall in the latest round of the Auckland Cricket Premier Men’s competition. Clark top scored with 50 from 41 balls opening the batting in an opening stand of 83 with Vijay Anand. Connor Ansell supported Clark with 50 from 32 balls, as Auckland University posted 180/4 from 20 overs.
Jeet Patel and Nick Stobart both struck early dismissing the Cornwall openers, before Clark had Aditya Dhadwal caught behind for 32. Cornwall were under the rate required throughout and with a middle order collapse slipped to 125/7 from their 20 overs. Clark returning with figures of 2/24 from 4.
Cameron Steel’ 70 against Scarborough wasn’t enough to help Claremont Nedlands reach the Semi-Finals of the Western Australian Cricket Association – Premier T20 competition. Batting first Scarborough posted 159/6 from their 20 overs with Matthew Spoors (58) and Lochie Hardie (57) top scoring at the top of the order. Steel claiming one wicket with 1/10 from two overs.
In reply Steel led the way with 70 but only Jackson Edmonstone (37) could reach double figures as the Tigers slipped to a 13-run defeat closing their 20 overs on 146/8.
