An all-round strong display with both bat and ball saw Upper Hut United earn victory over Wellington Collegians by an innings & 111 runs in their Rothbury Capital City Premier Division fixture.
Having been asked to bat by Wellington Collegians, an opening stand of 114 between Callum McLachlan and Thomas Jones saw United get off to a great start. McLachlan scored 147 while Jones scored 43.
Once both fell, Liam Trevaskis came to the crease, scoring a 70-ball 60 with seven fours and three sixes backed by 114 from Nishant Desai and 52 from Navroz Singh. Upper Hut united posting a huge 451/6 from 76 overs.
Nishant Desai (3/28) and two wickets each from Bhavik Patel and Lokugama Vidanalage saw Wellington Collegians bowled out for 179 in their first innings. It was a similar story second innings as Collegians couldn’t get going with the bat. Despite some lower order runs from Peter Southey-Jenson and Subhash Choudary, they were bowled out for 161 second innings Upper Hut United – securing the win by an innings and 11 runs.
Graham Clark continued his fine form for Auckland University Cricket Club hitting his second century in the space of a week. Despite adding another century to his runs tally, Clark was on the losing side, as Auckland University suffered a 100-run loss to Takapuna District Cricket Club in their Jeff Crowe One Day Championship Semi Final tie.
Batting first Takapuna posted 388/3 from 50 overs, as openers Max O’Dowd and Will O’Donnell starred with an opening stand of 340. O’Dowd batting the full 50 overs finishing unbeaten on 196 backed by 174 from O’Donnell.
In reply Auckland University lost Vijay Annand for 0, but a second wicket stand of 225 from Clark and Connor Ansell had Auckland well and truly on track. Ansell fell seven short of his century on 93. Clark continued to score runs but fell for 130 from 84 balls hitting 14 fours and five 6s in the process. Despite runs from Clark and Ansell, the rest of the batting line up struggled, with only Nick Stobbart (21) contributing elsewhere. Auckland University slipping to a 100 run defeat in 41.4 overs.
Academy cricketer Jonathan Bushnell top scored with 77 but Claremont-Nedlands went down by 88 runs against Perth in their Western Australian Cricket Association – 1st Grade match. Batting first Perth scored 279 from 90 overs but it was their lower order who did the damage at Fletcher Park, East Oval.
Some impressive bowling from Daniel Turkich (5/72) and Mac Hanlin (4/64) saw Perth reduced to 132/8 – but it was some lower order hitting which rescued Perth. Josh Nicholas dug in with the bat with 63 from 139 balls backed by 42 from Jack Baker and Liam Guthrie (33), as Perth recovered to 279 from 90 overs.
In reply, Josh Nicholas picked up two quick wickets as Claremont-Nedlands lost their top three batters early on, being reduced to 22/3. Tim David added 26, but it was only Jonathan Bushnell who contributed with the bat, as he faced 171 balls for 77 hitting 10 fours in the process. Once he was out only Haydan Morton (25) added any further runs, as the ‘Tigers’ were bowled out for 191 in 70.2 overs.
