Message from Bob Jackson ahead of recreational cricket’s return

As we look forward to the return of our great game tomorrow, Durham Cricket Board would like to wish everyone involved at recreational level across our county a splendid time.

This week marks the biggest progress made for cricket during this crisis with our game becoming the first team sport to return to the international stage as the #raisethebat Test series against the West Indies commenced and this Saturday, we will see the return of recreational cricket across local grounds, making cricket the first team sport to return at grassroots level.

We are immensely proud to be the first team sport to resume at recreational level and we are certain that players, clubs and coaches, parents and volunteers are very excited to get going.

We have been looking forward to this for so long now and, while we need to work together to make a safe return, we shouldn’t forget to enjoy the game we all love!

During these extraordinary times for society, our sport has been affected but at a time of crisis, many came forward and supported cricket in countless meaningful ways. For all your work, patience and commitment, we are extremely thankful.

Our clubs and volunteers worked hard every step of the way and continue to do so to support cricket as it returns.

Thank you to the volunteers who organise leagues and officials, and, of course, thank you to the umpires and scorers who will return to officiating soon.

We want to express our gratitude to ECB, who took on a massive task and delivered it superbly to lead our game to an outcome we all hoped for.

Finally, we would like to remind everyone that it is absolutely essential that at all times we adhere to ECB and Government Guidance this weekend and beyond.

We know clubs would be at different stages and while some may be able to resume straightaway, others will need more time to prepare. A number of different documents and guides have been distributed that have been designed to help clubs in their preparations including risk assessment template and action checklist, which you can find via the link below.

To help clubs, we have collated all relevant information on our website and ECB’s full guidance for the return of recreational cricket as well as everything you need to know ahead of this weekend can be found here.

Durham Cricket Board is committed to helping clubs across the county with any concerns, questions and advice they may need at this time. Please email Graeme Weeks on graeme.weeks@durhamcricket.co.uk with any enquiries.

Good luck and have a great time!

Bob Jackson,

Durham Cricket Board

Chairman
