June – Women’s Big Cricket Month

Women’s Big Cricket Month starts today, 1st June, and will champion, highlight and celebrate women’s and girls’ cricket throughout the month.

The campaign, driven by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), is back for a second year running and will aim to give more women and girls the opportunity to play, follow or attend cricket in 2021.

With exciting new activities at grassroots level, the second year of a brand new professional domestic structure in place, two fascinating England Women series and the launch of The Hundred, this year is shaping up to see more women and girls than ever before say ‘cricket is a game for me’.

Across Durham, women’s and girls’ cricket has seen some great success at grassroots level in the past few years. A few of them are:

  • In 2020, women’s teams across the county doubled in numbers, from 6 in 2019 to 12 in 2020;
  • This year 31 per cent of Dynamos Cricket participants across Durham are girls, higher than the national average;
  • And 30 per cent of All Stars Cricket participants are girls, higher than the national average

Throughout June, Durham Cricket will be joining the Women’s Big Cricket Month campaign across social media to showcase some of the great stories from across the county.

If you’re looking to get involved in women’s or girls’ cricket for the first time, we can help. Get in touch with us on social media or over email: marsha.davies@durhamcricket.co.uk
